A striped fairway on the Heath Course running between tall Scots pines towards a distant flag

TheHeath Course

Eighteen holes laid out across the open heath in 1908, where the ball runs on firm, sandy turf and the heather decides what a wayward shot is worth.

The Heath Course was laid out by Arthur Hammond on land the club's founders leased from the Chobham estate, and it has changed remarkably little since. The routing climbs gently from the clubhouse onto the high heath, turns at the old well and returns through the pines to finish beneath the clubhouse windows.

It is a course of angles rather than length. The fairways are generous, but each hole has a better side to play from, and the greens reward the golfer who has thought a shot ahead. In late summer, when the heather flowers, it is as beautiful as anywhere in English golf.
